The University of Tulsa Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will host an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) competition on the TU campus May 19-21, 2017. UAV systems are effective in recruiting middle and high school students to fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The industrial applications of UAV systems continue to expand, and TU is home to innovative UAV research.

2017 Student UAS Competition

The purpose of the competition is to promote and develop Canadian expertise and experience in unmanned systems technologies at the university and college levels. Even small scale unmanned vehicles are complex systems requiring a well planned and executed design approach. In addition, safety considerations are important factors in this competition as in any other vehicle design project. The students are faced with real life scenarios involving the environment, agriculture, mining, transportation, and oil & gas sectors.
April 28 - 30, 2017
Alpha Class for 2017 will be a turbine aircraft design competition and exposition. Teams are invited to develop novel prototype aircraft in response to a statement of work requesting a turbine-powered advanced UAS target drone designed around the Kingtech K-45G turbine engine. Each team will perform flight demonstrations of their prototypes, as well as host an exposition of their design to industry judges as well as spectators.
